Hmmm, not sure you understand the meaning of 'custom built' in Dave's post? ;-)
That could mean he's used someone elses subs and taken the badges off, which seems to be what you're suggesting. If that's the case, the best you can do is go to a gig and have a sniff around the subs where the cables plug in and see if you can find any names on plates.
Other than that, he could have custom built cabinets with some standard drivers in them. If that's true, you'll need to nick a bass bin so you can disassemble it and copy it. You'll also be able to see what's drivers he's using.
Of course, he might have custom specced drivers in which case you're fucked. Even if you could find out who made them, they're not gonna give out Dillinja's trade secrets to you ;-)
cheers,
Chris

Dillinja's Valve: nice'n'bassy but no clarity |

to be honest the sound reproduction from Dillinja's valve sound system isn't really up to much. Yeah it's loud and gives DnB good depth and kick but the clarity isn't really up to scratch,I went to see Dillinja, DJ Hype and Grooverider a couple of weeks ago and you miss so much musical detail with this system. Although i did have buzzin ears for 2 days after.

Hi Becs,
Well, you're probably spot on with the sound quality, but "buzzin ears" can't be a good thing, right?
I don't fancy the idea of beign deaf in 10 years time...

Yeah it's a bit dodgy. The system was kicking so much that it mananged to knock my pint over! which was not good!!! If you're into DnB you should definitely check out Legends of the Dark Black nights they're really good.

Vortex praises Valve! |

dillinja's system has got loads of 18" scoop bins. they have extreme out put and nice low response. they are quite fun to build i have got a few 12" scoop bins.
as for what cone he loaded them with. i would place a guess that its an RCF driver. or Precision devices diver
Precision devices are by far the best cones you can get in the uk but cost a small fortune.
scoops a nice but they cant do transients that well. (techno kick drums)
am yet to hear he system first hand. but i am told the top end was totally bollocks untill he decided to bin it and go for funktion 1 resolution 5 cabinets. which i have heard many times. very nice sound.

What makes a Sub |
by olly-civic

its not so much the actual driver(sub) that would have the badge ripped off, as far as speakers go their design hasnt changed for a long time, its a round cone and a magnet, sure theres been tweeks hear and there and the problems of thermal build up have been looked at but a good quality driver like a FANE or a P.D. will only do what its box lets it, and the design of the box is so important to the sound the driver can make, what im getting at is by taking any branding off a driver dont mean your ripping anyone off, if you pull a 218 apart the drivers aint made by funktion one... are they ripping anyone one off.. no
