Yes I agree it stems back from when Turbosound and PD where owned by Harman Audio (JBL). There were many political issue here. Function one do use alot of Fane drivers in there systems, this is partly due to the fact that the driver designer from PD moved to Fane and has a very good relationship with Mr Andrews. PD 1850 is without doubt the best 18" driver I have ever come across, however its use is limited, to band pass and horn cabs as well as scoops (ask dillinger. The dillinger system as far as I know used PD 1850s loaded into ASS type scoops. Have a look at www.speakerplans.com for scoop designs.
