A dark Drum'n'Bass anthem made even harder and darker. Shame about the pressing.

The original Hard Leaders release of this started shaking the floors in 1998 and hasn't left my record box yet. This new mix features on Valve's latest album sampler (VLV 003) and is set to follow in the original's footsteps.

The tune is built around a really hard set of Amen loops that give the track an amazingly hectic feel. The new mix is still recognisable as 'Fade To Black' and so works as a real crowd pleaser adding more bass to the original and a more complex set of loops. After the second break the tune goes totally mental, sure to leave and dancefloor very hot and sweaty.

The album sampler also features Dillinja's mix of 'Organik Funk' which is definitely worth a mention. Combining a great funky accoustic bassline with the hard beats that Dillinja does so well, this tune is a true roller that will keep the crowd on the move.

The downside to this sampler is that whoever pressed it didn't get it quite right. The bass end, particularly on 'Fade To Black', is quite badly distored in some places. While it's possible that it was intended, I think it's unlikely as it almost spoils what is otherwise an excellent sampler for the high calibre dark and hard drum'n'bass that Valve have to offer.
