Hey man don't let jackasses like that get at you. It's true that being a DJ is about original style, I've been scratching and mixing for six years now. If you want some good records to check out here they are, these are used by many DJ's like mix master mike, and q-bert for example.
1.Duck breaks- def. a good buy for beats and some good lyrical content as well.
2. Back sliding Turkey Cutz- Very good buy for lyrical content, some good beats as well.
3. Hampster Breaks- this is a pretty good record
Pretty much check out your local DJ or record shop, dig through some records and if you can preview them before you buy, then do it up. Also if you're looking for starting out tables I had these cheap ass Gemini 100 xl's they were good for starting out, but I didn't hold on to them too long, becuase I moved beyond that. Right now I'm using Gemini PT 20002 II's they're nice table at about $500 a piece.
Good luck and keep turntablism alive and away from those damn CDJ bastards.
